Switch off the chainsaw and allow the chain to cool

Loosen the guide bar nuts slightly

Locate the chain tensioning screw or dial

Turn clockwise to tighten or counter-clockwise to loosen

Adjust until the chain sits snug against the bar with no slack

Ensure the chain moves freely by hand (wear gloves)

Lift the bar nose and tighten the bar nuts firmly

Recheck tension after a short period of cutting
