Why won’t my chainsaw chain install correctly or move freely?

First, check that the plastic spacer located near the bar stud between the bar cover and the chassis has been removed. This spacer is used for shipping only and will prevent proper chain installation if left in place. After removing the spacer, install the guide bar and chain according to the instructions.
