If you are unsure, watch the videos below—they show different methods.
Different trimmer heads use slightly different methods—choose the one that matches your model
Before starting:
Disconnect power (battery or spark plug)
Wear gloves
Work on a stable surface
Trimmer line (correct thickness for your model)
Scissors or cutting tool
Tip: Using the wrong line size can cause feeding problems or breakage.
Push the tabs or unscrew the cap
Remove the spool if needed
Take out any remaining line
Remove dirt and debris
A clean spool helps the line feed smoothly.
Feed the line into the holes or slots
Keep both ends even
Follow the arrows on the spool
Wind tightly and evenly
Winding in the wrong direction is the most common mistake.
Place the spool back
Feed the line through the eyelets
Close the head securely
Start the product
Check that the line feeds properly
Line not wound evenly
Wrong winding direction
Incorrect line thickness
Dirt inside the spool
Line too thin
Worn or damaged head
There are several types:
Pre-wound spool (quick replacement)
Manual winding spool
Rapid reload/feed systems
The steps above apply to all, but details may vary slightly depending on your model.
Use the correct line size
Wind evenly and tightly
Do not overfill the spool
Clean the head regularly
If the line is still not loading or feeding correctly:
Double-check the winding direction
Make sure the line is not tangled inside the spool
Ensure the spool is not overfilled
If the issue continues, check your operator’s manual or contact an authorised Husqvarna service dealer.
